Beach volleyball, WNBA preseason, and Spain's dominance of the French Open!
Welcome to Screen Shots! This is where I tell you what sporting events you should watch on TV every week! Make sure you subscribe so it comes straight to your inbox! Have your own suggestions? Shoot me an email at [email protected]!
A lot of Beyond The Arc with Brandon Silvers this week! First, I look back at some #1 overall draft picks in recent NFL history to try and figure out if you should really expect greatness from that pick.
Then, James Paige of Turn The Paige Travel came on to help me talk about all of the storylines from this year’s NFL Draft.
I’m off this week to recover and do some reporting at another sporting event. But that’s okay because there are plenty of things to watch! To the sports!

College Baseball: #1 Texas Longhorns @ #11 Arkansas Razorbacks at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
Of the big 3 sports in the United States, Major League Baseball players are the best at disappearing after their careers are over. I assumed that they all went to live on some giant ranch, so imagine my surprise when I saw that former All-Star SS Troy Tulowitzki is on the Longhorns’ staff. Yankees fans would have shit their pants if they had a shortstop as productive as pre-injury Tulo was! Here he is making an unassisted triple play.
NBA First Round: New York Knicks @ Detroit Pistons at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT
Knicks win: they move on. Pistons win: they force a seventh game. The previous three games have been decided by a combined 6 points.
NBA First Round: Denver Nuggets @ Los Angeles Clippers at 10:00 pm (ET) on TNT
A couple of brutal games for the Clippers. First, they lost on the closest buzzer-beater I’ve seen since Derek Fisher beat the Spurs. Then, Jamal Murray remembered how to play basketball. Los Angeles looks done…except I would have said the same thing about the Nuggets a couple of games ago.

NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball: First Round Coverage of the NC Beach Volleyball Tournament begins at 9:00 am (ET) on ESPN2
I loved this during the Olympics, and just now found out that this is a thing in college too. Let’s break it down! There are 92 programs that participate in the National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Tournament. 16 of them make the tournament (8 automatic bids and 8 at-large bids). The first tournament took place in 2016 and was won by Southern Cal, which has won 6 of the 9 national titles. UCLA has won 2, and COVID beat us all in 2020. A new national champion will be crowned on Sunday. Here’s more from the NCAA website!
WNBA Preseason: Brazil National Team @ Chicago Sky at 9:00 pm (ET) on ION
Kamilla against her national team. Angel Reese playing in front of the LSU crowd again. What more could you ask for? Also, shout out to everyone for yelling at the league so much that they made sure to broadcast all of the preseason games for the first time ever. It seems like it was just last year that we all gathered around on Twitter as a fan livestreamed a game on their phone for us. Oh, wait, it was!

NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball: Second Round and Semifinal Coverage of the NC Beach Volleyball Tournament begins at 9:00 am (ET) on ESPN2
We’re all in on this, buddy!
College Softball: #2 Texas A&M Aggies @ #1 Tennessee Volunteers at 4:00 pm (ET) on SEC Network
The final game of the regular season for both teams. Being at the top of the rankings is notable for both programs as Tennessee seeks its first-ever NCAA title, and the Aggies are looking for their first since 1987. It’s a safe bet that the national champion will come from the SEC. Check out this SEC Tournament preview!

NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball: NC Beach Volleyball National Championship Match at 10:30 am (ET) on ESPN
Considering the popularity of the sport on the West Coast, maybe we should consider a later start time in the future. However, it’s on ESPN, so we’ll take our wins where we can get them! As a longtime NC Beach Volleyball fan, I’ll enjoy this breakfast match.
NWSL: Chicago Stars FC @ NY/NJ Gotham FC at 1:00 pm (ET) on CBS
Gotham looks like they are starting to figure things out after a sluggish start to the season. F Esther González leads the NWSL in goals with 7. However, I can’t help but think they’d be even better if they leaned even further into their club name and played wearing Batman masks.
WNBA Preseason: Brazil National Team @ Indiana Fever at 4:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Caitlin Clark returns to play in front of the Hawkeye crowd alongside her new look Fever squad. Rumor has it that Christine Brennan is heading up a task force to brainstorm slurs to call any Brazilian players who dare to foul her.
MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Atlanta Braves at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
I will be here covering the game for you, the people. The last time I was here, I overpaid for a mediocre sandwich and witnessed a Braves fan try to get a Dodgers fan ejected for foul language. Clearly, I’m biased, but if you aren’t prepared to hear a “Fuck yeah!” at a sporting event, stay home. Tune in to see me curse and fight a Braves fan!

On This Day In Sports History: In 2003, tennis player Carlos Alcaraz was born
Okay, first of all, we should all feel old. But, more importantly, this serves as a reminder that the French Open is coming up at the end of the month. Alcaraz won last year’s French Open to continue the dominance of the Spaniards in this Grand Slam. Starting with Albert Costa in 2002, Spanish men have won the men’s singles title at Roland Garros in 17 of the last 23 tournaments. Is the bulk of this carried by Rafael Nadal’s ridiculous 14 titles? Yes. But Alcaraz’s coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, also got one.

Men’s UEFA Champions League Semifinals: FC Barcelona @ Inter Milan at 3:00 pm (ET) on CBS
No, this isn’t déjà vu. You did see this exact matchup last week. Clubs play each other twice, and the highest aggregate score advances to the final. Their 3-3 draw means that it’s a winner-takes-all match to advance to the final, so both teams should be playing locked in from the start.

Men’s UEFA Champions League Semifinals: Arsenal @ Paris Saint-Germain at 3:00 pm (ET) on CBS
Ousmane Dembélé scored in the 4th minute of match 1, and that was all that PSG needed to come away with the win. However, due to the aggregate score rules, we are now set up for yet another great second match, thanks to the close margin of victory!
