College basketball is BACK, baseball is almost over, and the Legend of Timmy Chang!

Welcome to Screen Shots! This is where I tell you what sporting events you should watch on TV every week! Make sure you subscribe so it comes straight to your inbox! Have your own suggestions? Shoot me an email at [email protected]!

Hello! Still working on the rebrand, so Beyond The Arc episodes are on hold for the moment. However, we’re still doing the Lord’s work over on the Nameless College Football Show! P.D. carried me through this week’s episode as my seasonal allergies almost took me out, and it was one of my favorites! If you hate Brian Kelly, it’ll be one of your favorites, too!

Now, to the sports!

  • College Football: Tulane Green Wave @ UTSA Roadrunners at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

Checking in on America’s favorite team quarterbacked by a Jewish player who transferred in from a Mormon university mid-summer after violating that university’s honor code by having premarital sex. Jake Retzlaff has picked up right where he left off, as he has Tulane keeping pace with Navy in the American Athletic Conference standings.

His counterpart on the opposing side is no slouch either. Owen McCown is from the McCown QB family. Dad, Josh, played in the NFL from 2002 to 2020. Uncle, Luke, not to be confused with Uncle Luke, was also an NFL QB from 2004 to 2017. Another uncle, Randy, played collegiately at Texas A&M, and Owen’s brother, Aiden, is currently a QB at Lamar. No word on how much premarital sex any of them have had.

  • Halloween Movie of the Week: Lowlifes (2024)

This movie tricked me right off the bat by feeding into my insatiable need to stereotype white people. Imagine if We’re The Millers was a slasher flick. At least, I think. I’d never willingly watch a movie with Jason Sudekis in it. Anyway, this one does a good job of combining jumpscare moments with comedic ones. You will be entertained!

  • World Series: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Toronto Blue Jays at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox

It feels like game 3 just ended. I fell asleep in the middle of that one, but it’s a good thing I woke up because I couldn’t have dreamt of a more incredible game. With the Dodgers’ bullpen down so bad that Yoshi Yamamoto started warming up just two days after throwing his 2nd straight complete game gem, reliever Will Klein somehow managed to hold it down and save the ace’s arm for later. Klein doubled his big league career-high for pitches thrown, and looked infinitely calmer doing it than I was watching. In a game where Shohei homered twice and reached base 9 (!) times, and Freddie walked it off with a homer of his own, Klein’s performance is the one that sticks out to me.

  • Bonus Halloween Movie of the Week: Hocus Pocus (1993)

One last time, just because.

  • College Football: Arizona State Sun Devils @ Iowa State Cyclones at 1:00 pm (ET) on TNT

One of the Big 12 matchups that came over in the trade with ESPN for Inside The NBA. I’m still not convinced these aren’t the same teams. Assuming they aren’t, keep an eye out for Sun Devils WR Jordyn Tyson. He’s on pace for a 2nd straight 1000-yard 10+ TD season. He’ll have to do it without injured starting QB Sam Leavitt, but surely replacement Jeff Sims has learned something about playing the position in his 18 years of college football.

  • College Football: #5 Georgia Bulldogs vs. Florida Gators at 3:30 pm (ET) on ABC

Speaking of media rights, this is one of those SEC games that just feels like CBS. Based on the hand their contract with the Big Ten has dealt them, I bet CBS wishes that were true. The last time an unranked Florida team beat a ranked Georgia team? 2014 under Will Muschamp. Yuck. Gators interim coach Billy Gonzales will try to update that little factoid. Hell of a thing to ask a man to do in his first game at the helm!

  • World Series: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Toronto Blue Jays at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox

I’m not sure if this one will be necessary yet, but I’ve got my ashwaghanda gummies just in case. Vlad Guerrero Jr. is every bit his father’s son. I can’t stand watching his at-bats, because I just know he’s about to hit a laser. Through game 4, he’s batting .419 with an OPS of 1.306 this postseason. I was led to believe that hits were harder to come by in October. Could someone please let him know?

  • College Football: Hawaii Rainbow Warriors @ San Jose State Spartans at 10:30 pm (ET) on CBSSN

Finally, a televised late Hawaii game! This used to be a weekly staple. Former college football legendary QB Timmy Chang has his alma mater bowl eligible for the first time during his 4-year tenure. The Hawaii native is facing off with another Hawaii native in San Jose State head coach Ken Niumatalolo. Alas, this one is in San Jose.

  • College Volleyball: #3 Kentucky Wildcats @ #2 Texas Longhorns at 1:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

Okay, when college volleyball makes an appearance in here, it’s almost always the same teams. For that, I apologize. However, I’m not in charge of the TV schedule. Also, whoever is in charge of the TV schedule picks absolute bangers. So enjoy yet another top-5 matchup between two programs you’re probably familiar with at this point!

  • NFL: Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills at 4:25 pm (ET) on CBS

Speaking of absolute bangers. The last six matchups have all come down to the 4th quarter or overtime. QBs Josh Allen and Patrick Mahomes are once again in the MVP conversation. A little bit of fun rivalry lore: the Chiefs traded up to the 10th pick in 2017 to draft Mahomes. Their trade partner? The Buffalo Bills.

  • Women’s College Basketball: #16 Baylor Bears vs. #7 Duke Blue Devils at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

We made it! College basketball season is here, and we get a top-25 matchup at lunchtime on a Monday to kick things off. Bears double-double machine Darianna Littlepage-Buggs is joined by Auburn transfers Taliah Scott and Yuting Deng. Scott has played just 23 games over her 2-season career, but has averaged 21.9 PPG in those games. Deng played just 12 games herself as a freshman last season, but that’s all I needed to see to figure out that she can flat-out shoot. I saw her in person against South Carolina, and she was letting it fly.

If there’s a team in the nation that can slow them down, it’s Duke. Kara Lawson’s team almost took down those Gamecocks in the Elite Eight thanks to the most stifling defense in the country. If you’re like me, you’re mostly interested in seeing how freakishly athletic Toby Fournier continued her development in the offseason. Speaking of French words, they’re playing this one in Paris!

  • Men’s College Basketball: #3 Florida Gators @ #13 Arizona Wildcats at 7:00 pm (ET) on TNT

Last year’s champs take on Arizona in Las Vegas. What I miss most in this era of MCBB is watching programs develop from year to year. These days, there are more new faces than returners. I’m getting old. But learning who is on each team every year is just as good a reason to watch as any!

  • Women’s College Basketball: #8 Tennessee Volunteers vs. #9 NC State Wolfpack at 4:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2

Of all the transfers that took place across the college basketball landscape this past offseason, one of the most shocking was Khamil Pierre’s move from Vanderbilt to NC State. As a sophomore last year, Pierre emerged as one of the best power forwards in the country, averaging 20.4 PPG, 9.6 RPG, and 2.9 SPG. Her arrival helps the Wolfpack, who lost Aziaha James and Saniya Rivers to the W, remain a contender to reclaim the ACC regular season title they shared with Duke last season.

  • Women’s College Basketball: #1 UConn Huskies vs. #20 Louisville Cardinals at 5:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

Consume as much UConn women’s hoops as possible before the Big East conference slate begins, because I don’t know what’s going on with their TV deal. Nobody has repeated since UConn won 4 in a row with Breanna Stewart leading the way. It sounds crazy, but Sarah Strong could very well be better than she was. As if that wasn’t enough, they also have Azzi Fudd, who could be gearing up for her own National Player of the Year run. Good luck, everybody else!

  • NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves @ New York Knicks at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

I’ve tied these two teams together thanks to the trade that sent KAT to the Knicks for Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. Randle is rolling so far this season, and he’s going to have to keep it up with Anthony Edwards expected to be out for a couple of weeks with a hamstring issue. He had just 8 points in his return to MSG last year. Surely, he can do better than that this time around!

  • NBA: San Antonio Spurs @ Los Angeles Lakers @ 10:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

Victor Wembanyama in LA, taking on…Austin Reaves??? Yes! At the time of this writing, Reaves is 3rd in the league in scoring at 35.8 PPG. In 2 games since losing Luka Doncic, he’s put up 46 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 7 APG. So stop laughing and tap in!
