Cleveland rocks, Thon Maker, and all of the women's hoops!
120% Snappier!

Keeping it rolling with the women’s college basketball previews! This time, I’m joined by Jamie Steyer Johnson to discuss the Big 12. She’s so passionate about the conference that I debated moving to the Midwest for a split second. If my math is correct, I’ve got 1 more women’s hoops preview for y’all after this one!
Now, to the sports!

Women’s College Basketball: Creighton Bluejays @ #10 Kansas St. Wildcats at 6:30 pm (ET) on ESPN2
Creighton stumbled out of the gates, but this is a talented team that brought back the bulk of their production from last season’s squad that nearly upset 2-seed UCLA in the 2nd round of the NCAA Tournament. They’ll be a tough test for the Wildcats, who are trying to figure out what they are when everything isn’t Ayoka Lee-centric. Skip to the 34-minute mark of my episode this week for more on that!
College Football: Grambling Tigers @ Alabama A&M Bulldogs at 8:00 pm (ET) on ESPNU
Grambling’s last game before the Bayou Classic. Tap in and get familiar so you’re ready!

Women’s College Basketball: #2 Connecticut Huskies @ #14 North Carolina Tar Heels at 6:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
Catch the Paige Bueckers Farewell Tour when you can because the Big East’s TV deal makes their games damn near impossible to see.
NBA Cup Group Play: Los Angeles Lakers @ San Antonio Spurs at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN
First things first, Victor Wembanyama is a generational talent. You know how I feel about him because he’s been included both here and in the Olympic daily watch guide multiple times over. It’s time for some tough love though. He will not reach his full potential offensively if he keeps shooting so many 3-pointers. At the time of this writing, 47% of his field goal attempts are 3s. Even worse, he’s only hitting 31% of them.
He is 7 foot motherfuckin’ 4 inches tall! You can count the number of players in the history of the league who have been taller than him on 2 hands. He’s letting defenses off the hook by settling for these shots and negating his biggest advantage. He needs to figure out how to create shots closer to the rim before I start calling him “Croissant Maker.” This is a Thon Maker joke, and I acknowledge that it barely works, but it kinda does if you say it out loud.
He hit a career-high 8 3-pointers to score a career-high 50 points after I wrote this so it’s entirely possible I’m incredibly wrong. But, hey, even more reason to watch this game!

College Football: Utah Utes @ #17 Colorado Buffaloes at 12:00 pm (ET) on Fox
I don’t know if we get tired of the Colorado stuff or what, but, uh, they’re actually really good. Like, “could win the Big 12 and make the College Football Playoffs” good.
College Football: #7 Tennessee Volunteers @ #3 Georgia Bulldogs at 7:30 pm (ET) on ABC
My Grandaddy is responsible for my Gamecock fandom, but he was also a diehard Vols fan. This makes way more sense than him being a Gamecock fan when you consider that not only was he born and raised in Tennessee, but also attended UT for a bit. On October 6th, 2001, 6th-ranked Tennessee faced off against an unranked Bulldogs team. It was a sluggish performance by the Vols, but, with 57 seconds left, QB Casey Clausen hit star RB Travis Stephens for a 62-yard TD to take the lead. As was tradition at the time, I picked up the phone to call Grandaddy and we were as fired up as you can imagine. It took Georgia QB David Greene 5 plays and 28 seconds to march down the field. He found a wide-open Verron Haynes in the endzone for the game-winning touchdown. I repeatedly called out “Grandaddy,” but was met with silence long enough for me to become incredibly concerned that he had dropped dead. He eventually answered, but, after all these years of pulling for the Gamecocks, I get it.

NFL: Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers at 1:00 pm (ET) on CBS
The Ravens are right behind the Steelers in the AFC North. Yes, you read that right. The less talent you give Mike Tomlin, the stronger he gets. He’d probably win the Super Bowl with the Panthers.
Women’s College Basketball: #13 North Carolina St. Wolfpack @ TCU Horned Frogs at 3:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
TCU had to cancel 2 games last season and hold tryouts mid-year due to injury issues. They brought in a heap of transfer talent, including Hailey Van Lith, to fill out the roster, but this is their 1st true test of the season.
NFL: Kansas City Chiefs @ Buffalo Bills at 4:25 pm (ET) on CBS
It’s obvious at this point that someone within the Chiefs’ inner circle (almost certainly T*ylor Sw*ft) has utilized some form of witchcraft to prevent them from losing.

International Men’s Soccer: Jamaica @ US at 8:00 pm (ET) on TNT
I don’t know enough about soccer to know exactly what the Concacaf Nations League is, but I do know enough to know that people will start getting really antsy if the USMNT doesn’t have a good performance.
Tuesday, November 19th, 2024
NBA Cup Group Play: Cleveland Cavaliers @ Boston Celtics at 7:00 pm (ET) on TNT
The Cavs have been cutting everybody’s asses this season. New coach Kenny Atkinson has figured out how to make them the most productive offense in the league up to this point while remaining elite defensively. Pretty good recipe for success! If things keep up, this is an Eastern Conference Finals preview.
Men’s College Basketball: #13 Purdue Boilermakers @ #15 Marquette Golden Eagles at 9:00 pm (ET) on FS1
Purdue is one of those Big Ten men’s basketball teams I’ve been making fun of forever, but this will be 1 of 3 non-conference matchups with opponents who are ranked in the top 15. Give us big-time matchups before New Year’s!
Wednesday, November 20th, 2024
Men’s College Basketball: Siena Saints @ Xavier Musketeers at 6:30 pm (ET) on FS1
A showdown of 2 former Big East legends who have moved on to the sidelines. Xavier coach Sean Miller was named Big East Rookie of the Year for the 1987-’88 season for his play at Pitt. I can’t think of him as anything other than a coach, but he could hoop! This was back when the Big East was THE BIG EAST, and he led the conference in assists as a senior.
Now, I do remember Gerry McNamara as a player to the point where I’m having a hard time picturing him as Siena’s head coach. He was on that 2003 National Championship squad with Melo and Hakim Warrick that took down Kansas in the final. I’m legally obligated to remind you that this was Jim Boeheim’s only national title in 47 years of coaching. McNamara is probably more known for his ridiculous MVP performance in the 2006 Big East Tournament. I bet he’ll never have to pay for another meal at Mother’s as long as he lives.
As always, thank you for reading! It’d be awesome if you shared and subscribed as well! I’ll catch you next week!
