Screen Shots: March 20th-26th, 2025
The Big Dance, Barbra Banda, and Jimmy Butler returns to Miami!

Someone do something about the pollen
Welcome to Screen Shots! This is where I tell you what sporting events you should watch on TV every week! Make sure you subscribe so it comes straight to your inbox! Have your own suggestions? Shoot me an email at [email protected]!
A little bit of housekeeping on the front end this week! You should watch as much March Madness as possible. With that in mind, I will include the beginning of tournament coverage each day as an entry. In addition, I will provide a couple of matchups to keep an eye on within each entry.
Secondly, there was no true episode of my show for you to watch this week. However, I did live-stream myself filling out my brackets. Those are still available on my YouTube page here. Spoiler alert: one of them features my dog, Kobe, interrupting the show to go throw up. Probably not the best sign for my picks. I’m happy to report that Kobe has since recovered. Alright, let’s get to the sports!

Men’s College Basketball: March Madness First Round coverage begins at 12:15 pm (ET) on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV
Is it a rule to watch the first game? It should be, right? That would be Creighton vs. Louisville on CBS, which should also be a great matchup. Creighton is led by Ryan Kalkbrenner and Steven Ashworth. They have over 330 combined games of college basketball experience. Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey has led 3 different programs to the tournament in the last 5 seasons. This was by far his most impressive performance as he took a Cardinals team that was one of the worst in the country last year and turned it around in just his first season.
The 10:00 pm (ET) game between UC San Diego and Michigan is another one to keep an eye on. The Tritons’ transition period to Division I just ended, and they wasted no time in making their way to the NCAA Tournament. They look to pull off one of those infamous 12/5 upsets as they face off against a Wolverines squad that won their first Big Ten conference tournament title since 2018.
Women’s College Basketball: Washington Huskies vs. Columbia Lions at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
NCAA Tournament Play-In game! I still don’t know how to feel about these, but this has all the makings of a close one. Columbia is one of a record-setting three Ivy League teams to make the tournament. Washington spent the season in the shadow of the Big Ten’s other Pac-12 refugees, but you will learn who Elle Ladine is very quickly. The star guard dropped 40 points in a game against Northwestern earlier this season.

Men’s College Basketball: March Madness First Round coverage begins at 12:15 pm (ET) on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV
Let’s start with the first game of the day again! Baylor and Mississippi State are as evenly matched as you would expect an 8/9 matchup to be. The Bears didn’t have the season many expected, but head coach Scott Drew has won it all before and has plenty of talent on this roster to make a run. The Bulldogs looked like they were on their way to being a 4-seed or higher until the gauntlet that was the SEC caught up to them. Of their 12 losses, only 1 came to a non-conference opponent.
Also, be sure to check out North Carolina and Ole Miss at 4:05 pm (ET). The last time we got this much noise about a team wrongfully being included in the Field of 68, Syracuse made a Final Four run (where they coincidentally lost to UNC). I’m not predicting that for the Tar Heels, but, if their First Four game was any indication, they should be playing with a chip on their shoulder.
Women’s College Basketball: March Madness First Round coverage begins at 11:30 am (ET) on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS
Y’all know I love start times before noon. A lot of good ones featuring great players, but pay close attention to the 1:30 pm (ET) matchup between 8-seed Utah and 9-seed Indiana. They both withstood losing a lot of firepower from last season’s rosters. However, they each had a win against a top-10 team on their resume.

Women’s College Basketball: March Madness First Round coverage begins at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS
An extra 30 minutes of prep time for the diehards. I’ve written about Harvard star Harmoni Turner before. She led the Crimson to the Ivy League tournament crown with a couple of monster performances, including a 44-point explosion against Princeton. Upsets aren’t as common on the women’s side, but she has more than enough ability to lead her 10-seed team over 7-seed Michigan State. This one tips off at 4:30 pm (ET).
Along those same lines, the 6/11 matchup between Florida State and George Mason is another popular upset pick. The Seminoles were banged up to end the season. When healthy, they are one of the most explosive offenses in the nation, led by Ta’Niya Latson. They’re facing off against a Patriots team that is looking to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance a memorable one. Catch this one at 7:45 pm (ET).
Men’s College Basketball: March Madness Round of 32 coverage begins at 12:10 pm (ET) on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV
Day 1 of the 2nd round. Will my bracket be cooked already? Probably.

Women’s College Basketball: March Madness Round of 32 coverage begins at Time TBD on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS
My women’s basketball knowledge base is much stronger than my men’s, but I’m only marginally more confident in this bracket.
Men’s College Basketball: March Madness Round of 32 coverage begins at 12:10 pm (ET) on CBS, TBS, TNT, and truTV
This round desperately needs a nickname. There will certainly be great basketball in this round, and there has been before, but we never reference them because nobody wants to say, “Hey, remember that big shot that Ty Shine hit against Temple in the round of 32?!?”
NWSL: Orlando Pride @ NY/NJ Gotham FC at 5:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
Yes, we’re doing more than just March Madness because the NWSL is back! The Pride took home last season’s NWSL Championship, their first in the history of the franchise. They still have Marta and Barbra Banda. Know anybody interested in talking NWSL? Send them my way!

NBA: Golden State Warriors @ Miami Heat at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT
The return of Jimmy Butler! That breakup went poorly, but we kind of forgot about it thanks to Nico Harrison. Jimmy has fit in quite nicely in Golden State. The Heat, on the other hand, have struggled as of late. Will fans show up on time to boo Jimmy and his overpriced coffee?

On This Day In Sports History: American shot putter Brian Oldfield passed away in 2017
From the best Throws coach I know, Herbert Johnson of the Herbert Johnson Track and Field Academy, “Brian Oldfield is the first great shot putter of the modern era. He’s also the first great showman of the throws.” Pretty accurate quote for a guy who was on the cover of both Sports Illustrated and Playgirl. Oldfield not only made the rotational technique popular, but he would often wear tie-dye shirts and shorts that could double as Speedos to compete. Here’s a great article that dives more into one of the OG characters of the track and field world!
