This past week, I looked at 3 WNBA teams that already have major problems just a quarter of the way into the regular season. Who are they, what’s wrong, and can they turn it around? Only one way to find out!

Now, on to the sports!

  • NBA Finals: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Indiana Pacers at 8:30 pm (ET) on ABC

For most of game 4, the Pacers looked poised to take a 3-1 series lead. Then, SGA MVP’d, and now they need a win in game 6 or it’s over. They face an uphill battle despite being at home due to a calf strain that had Tyrese Haliburton playing like the Steve Urkel version of himself. If St. Elmo Steak House doesn’t sell Boss Sauce, this might be the last NBA game of the season.

  • Concacaf Gold Cup: Saudi Arabia vs. USMNT at 9:15 pm (ET) on FS1

A 5-0 drubbing of Trinidad and Tobago to open the tournament means that the USMNT could qualify for the quarterfinals if they win this one and T&T earns a win or draw against Haiti. It remains to be seen how many wins it will take for everyone to be friends again. Either way, I’ve been cooking up my own Christian Pulisic takes for a while now, and I can’t wait to share them.

  • WNBA: Dallas Wings @ Connecticut Sun at 10:00 pm (ET) on ION

In 3 games since returning from injury, Paige Bueckers has averaged 23.7 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on .518/.357/.889 shooting splits. She’s also helped the Wings double their season win total. Yeah, they only had the 1 win, but whatever. That original win came against this Sun team pre-Paige injury. Something tells me the Connecticut crowd will be pulling for the Wings to prevail again.

  • WNBA: Phoenix Mercury @ Chicago Sky at 1:00 pm (ET) on ABC

The Mercury have quietly gotten off to an impressive start despite being without stars Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper for much of the beginning of the season. Can the “Girl Dad” experiment reach even higher highs now that AT and Copper are back and healthy? This will be the final game in a weeklong, 4-game road trip. Luckily, the Sky are the Buc-ee’s of the WNBA world right now.

  • Men’s College World Series: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. LSU/Arkansas at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

Imagine if those late-‘00s/early-‘10s Boise State college football or Butler men’s basketball teams had managed to break through. That’s what the Chanticleers have done in college baseball. They are seeking their 2nd MCWS title since 2016, and enter the finals on a 26-game winning streak. I had to double-check that because it seems impossible, but anything is possible in Conway, SC. Currently waiting to see who they face, but I can tell you that it will be an SEC powerhouse.

  • Men’s College World Series: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. LSU/Arkansas at 2:30 pm (ET) on ABC

Game 2 of the best-of-3 series. Once upon a time, my South Carolina Gamecocks almost 3-peated in this sport. Now, they have a coach who believes in landline telephones and TV antennas.

  • Concacaf Gold Cup: USMNT vs. Haiti at 7:00 pm (ET) on Fox

This could very well mean a lot to both teams, depending on how their Thursday matches shake out.

  • NBA Finals: Indiana Pacers @ Oklahoma City Thunder at 8:00 pm (ET) on ABC

Game 7, if necessary. If we get to this point, we are virtually guaranteed a close game. Since my birth in 1989, 5 NBA Finals have gone the distance. Every one of those game 7s was decided by 7 points or fewer.

  • Men’s College World Series: Coastal Carolina Chanticleers vs. LSU/Arkansas at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

Another “if necessary” game.

  • FIFA Club World Cup: Palmeiras @ Inter Miami CF at 9:00 pm (ET) on TBS

Lionel Messi’s time in the city where the heat is on all night on the beach until the break of dawn has certainly been successful for him as an individual in many different ways, as he’s managed to fight off Father Time. However, he’ll need to turn back the clock if he hopes to lead his club on a deep run in this competition. Messi is the reason Inter Miami is here in the first place, but not due to his on-the-pitch brilliance. Inter Miami received the only non-qualifying spot as a representative of the host nation, because, of course, you want the GOAT here if you’re FIFA. Can Messi help his club prove they belong?

  • WNBA:  Indiana Fever @ Seattle Storm at 10:00 pm (ET) on NBA TV

Erica Wheeler Revenge Game! It’s hard to describe how badly Wheeler looked last season as a member of the Fever. A former All-Star, she had to sign a training camp contract with the Storm just to prove she still belonged in the league. She’s managed to prove that and more as she has provided a much-needed spark for Seattle. Wheeler is putting up 10+ points per game for the first time since 2021, and is knocking down a career-high percentage both from 3 and overall. I’m not sure if a former All-Star can win Most Improved, but she has a hell of a case.

  • NBA: NBA Draft at 8:00 pm (ET) on ABC/ESPN

My issues with the NBA Draft are well-documented, but it’s still the NBA Draft.
