Women’s International Soccer: Spain vs. Portugal at 3:00 pm (ET) on Fox
Not only a geographical rivalry, but Spain is currently ranked 2nd in FIFA’s World Rankings. The 2023 World Cup champions are stacked with 9 players from ESPN’s Top 50 soccer players of 2024, including Aitana Bonmatí, who was ranked #1 overall for the second consecutive year. For those of you who watched their World Cup triumph over England, you’ll also recognize Olga Carmona, who scored the only goal in the match. I could probably do an entire article on their talent, but it’ll be more fun if you just tune in and see for yourself.

Women’s International Soccer: Germany vs. Poland at 3:00 pm (ET) on Fox
Let’s start with the obvious: Major League Baseball is dropping the ball (pun semi-intended) by not having a nationally televised game on the Fourth of July. I don’t even care about the holiday like that, but you’re America’s pastime. Do better.
Luckily for us, the UEFA Women’s Euros are willing and capable of picking up the slack. Ewa Pajor helped lead Poland to its first major tournament ever with a late goal against Austria. They look to make some real noise by upsetting the 3rd ranked club in the world. Germany has dominated this tournament since its inception, winning 8 of the 13 titles. However, they have been on the outside looking in since their streak of 6 straight ended in 2017. They suffered a brutal extra-time loss in the 2022 final against England. Can Klara Bühl and company climb back atop the European soccer world?

Track and Field: Prefontaine Classic at 4:00 pm (ET) on NBC
A who’s who of track and field. Kishane Thompson just dropped the 6th-fastest 100m time ever. Chase Jackson-Ealy just set the American record in the women’s shot put. Melissa Jefferson-Wooden proved herself to be a sprint star during the abbreviated Grand Slam Track season. Mega star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will be running in the open 400m. Cole Hocker, Letsile Tebogo, and Julien Alfred, who all burst onto the scene with gold medal-winning performances in Paris, will be here too. This is about as big as a non-Olympic or World Championship meet gets!
NBA Summer League: Philadelphia 76ers vs. Utah Jazz at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
A Tale of Two Public Images: Top-5 NBA Draft Pick Edition! Ace Bailey was the talk of this year’s NBA Draft for all of the wrong reasons. He spent much of his time trying to strong-arm his way to one of his preferred destinations by intentionally rubbing teams the wrong way. This plan was presumably thought up by his agent, Omar Cooper, who looks like somebody’s uncle who loves Paid In Full a bit too much. Not only did Bailey not end up where he wanted to go, but he’s actually headed to where nobody wants to go: Utah.
V.J. Edgecombe, on the other hand, handled the pre-draft process like most players do. The 76ers selected him with the 3rd overall pick, then he gave one of the most touching interviews since Kevin Durant’s “You the real MVP speech.” Should any of this matter? I don’t know. But it will in terms of the benefit of the doubt afforded to each. Even in a sports-crazed city like Philadelphia, Edgecombe will be granted some leeway if he struggles early. And Bailey? Well, if he doesn’t perform well, be prepared to see this video of Cooper ad nauseam.

WNBA: Seattle Storm @ New York Liberty at 1:00 pm (ET) on CBS
The Liberty are trying to keep pace with the top of the league without star Jonquel Jones. They face off with a Storm team that’s looking to prove that they are one of those top-of-the-league teams that the Liberty are trying to keep pace with. Should be fun!
Concacaf Gold Cup: Final at 7:00 pm (ET) on Fox
We won’t know the matchup until this one is already posted, but it’s been a hell of a competition up to this point. 3 of the 4 quarterfinal matches were decided by penalties, including the USMNT’s triumph over Costa Rica that saw GK Matt Freese play out of his mind. The United States and Mexico have combined for 16 of the 17 titles in this tournament’s history, so I’d probably bet on one of them.

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays @ Detroit Tigers at 6:40 pm (ET) on FS1
The AL has not had a pitcher win the Cy Young in back-to-back seasons since Pedro Martinez took over for the ‘99 and the 2000, but Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal appears to be well on his way to accomplishing exactly that. After losing the first two decisions of the season, Skubal is 10-0 with a 1.74 ERA. He’s also had 5 games of double-digit strikeouts on fewer than 100 pitches. The man is lights out. I’m very much looking forward to the Dodgers signing him after the 2026 season.

WNBA: Las Vegas Aces @ New York Liberty at 8:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Rookie Aaliyah Nye has been a bright spot in the Aces’ bummer of a season. The second-round pick out of Alabama has carved out a nice little spot in the rotation thanks to her 3-point shooting. The Liberty currently allow the most 3-point attempts in the league, so don’t be surprised if Nye has a big role in this one.
NBA Summer League: Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs at 10:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
For you Bronny James freaks.

WNBA: Golden State Valkyries @ Indiana Fever at 12:00 pm (ET) on NBA TV
First of all, midday sports are awesome. Secondly, these are two of the hottest teams in the league. The Valkyries very much look like a playoff team in their first year of existence. I’m still not really sure how, but it is what it is. The Fever just won the Commissioner’s Cup without Caitlin Clark. No word yet on her return, but Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have stepped up in her absence. Start placing your bets on which Golden State big Boston pisses off in this one.
