  • TBT: Eberlein Drive @ Best Virginia at 6:00 pm (ET) on FS1

How far Eberlein Drive has come. Their participation in the inaugural TBT in 2014 ended with a last-place finish courtesy of a 42-point blowout loss. That performance earned them a story in Sports Illustrated detailing their experience, including a dunk that resulted in a trip to the hospital. They have managed to make it this far twice, but have yet to win the $1 million prize. However, they have outlasted my Sports Illustrated subscription. They face off with, as you may have guessed by the name, a team of former Mountaineer players.

  • TBT: We Are D3 @ AfterShocks at 8:00 pm (ET) on FS1

Based on name alone, We Are D3 is the underdog story of the tournament. In a field full of former Division I hoopers, this squad of Division III alums has a real shot to play for the title. Now, I will point out that some players, like former College of Charleston standout Dimitrius Underwood, did have stints at DI schools, but this is impressive nonetheless. I mean, they don’t even have athletic scholarships at the D3 level.

The AfterShocks feature a bit of deception themselves. Originally created as a Wichita State alumni team (AfterShocks is a play on words for Wichita State’s “Shockers” nickname), only 4 of their 10 players actually played for the school. To make up for it, they have their own former College of Charleston player in Chevez Goodwin. About time to put together a standalone Cougars team, in this writer’s opinion. Make sure your remote has fresh batteries for this one, because…

  • NFL: Los Angeles Chargers @ Detroit Lions at 8:00 pm (ET) on NBC

…it’s time for some NFL football! Much like TBT, this will also be a great time to check out some college stars who you may have forgotten about as they try to snag spots on the 52-man roster. One such player is of particular interest to me. As you know, I am both a Gamecock fan and an expectant father. My son earned his nickname “Rocket” during last year’s Clemson-Carolina game, when his Uncle Brett texted me during a crucial part of the game that if we beat Clemson, I had to name my first child after our star RB Rocket Sanders. Rocket Silvers is due August 1st, so it’s entirely possible that he’ll be here to watch his nick-namesake take the field for the Chargers.

  • WNBA: Phoenix Mercury @ Atlanta Dream at 7:30 pm (ET) on ION

The Dream are both surviving and thriving without Rhyne Howard. Since the All-Star break, they’ve managed to beat this Mercury team and the Lynx. However, you’re here for an update on my feud with the Dream organization, and I have one. The lore deepens after I made a TikTok pointing out that they managed to misspell the name of rookie Te-Hina Paopao on their website. Do you know what got fixed within 24 hours? Did I get a thank you, a like, a share, a request to further elaborate on the origins of my feud so they could make it right? No. So, again, fuck the Atlanta Dream organization. Love the players though!

  • Track & Field: USATF Outdoor Championships at 4:00 pm (ET) on NBC

Can you believe this watch guide started just over a year ago during the Olympics? And that it was a daily? I was writing my ass off! If you were here for that, you know the role track and field plays in my Olympic love. We’re gearing up for the World Championships, which is basically the Olympics in non-Olympic years, and this will decide who will be representing Team USA during that. USATF is also holding the Paralympic Trials simultaneously for the first time ever, so I’m hoping they get some NBC time as well. Here’s a preview I did for that before the Paralympics last year:

  • MLB: Atlanta Braves @ Cincinnati Reds at 7:15 pm (ET) on Fox

The MLB Speedway Classic! They’re playing this one at Bristol Motor Speedway, making it the first-ever MLB game to be played in Tennessee. 85,000 tickets have already been sold, setting a new MLB single-game attendance record. The only Bristol native to have made an appearance in the big leagues this season is Braves P Hunter Stratton. They just sent him down to AAA, but perhaps he’ll be back up for this one since they can’t get much worse than they’ve been!

  • Track & Field: USATF Outdoor Championships at 4:00 pm (ET) on NBC

We’re pulling double duty with this one…

  • TBT: Championship Game at 4:00 pm (ET) on Fox

…and this one!

  • MLB: Detroit Tigers @ Philadelphia Phillies at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

The top of the standings in each league is a bit of a mess, and these two are firmly in the middle of those respective messes. In order to climb above the mess, each team is rumored to be trying to acquire Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suarez. The deadline is Thursday, so we’ll know by now if one of them got him.

  • On This Day In Sports History: In 1986, USFL owners voted to suspend operations after its antitrust lawsuit against the NFL yielded them a $3 judgment in their favor

Donald Trump spearheaded this lawsuit because he thought they’d win $1.7 billion. He was wrong. By approximately $1.7 billion. He’s in charge of our country now.

  • MLB: Cincinnati Reds @ Chicago Cubs at 8:05 pm (ET) on TBS

It makes sense that Pete Crow-Armstrong appears to be superhuman when you consider that his parents both appeared in the NBC drama Heroes, a show about common people learning that they have superpowers. The former first-round pick of the Mets is on pace for a 40/40 season in just his second full season in the majors. As good as he’s been at the plate and on the bases, he’s even better in centerfield. He leads all players in Fielding Run Value, a stat that converts defensive performance into runs. Check him out!

  • WNBA: Indiana Fever @ Los Angeles Sparks at 10:00 pm (ET) on CBSSN

The Sparks are coming! The insertion of PG Julie Allemand into the starting lineup appears to have kick-started something, as has getting Rickea Jackson more involved in the offense. Their struggles have been on the defensive side of the ball, but Cam Brink is back to help ease some of that. It seemed improbable after their slow start, but they could very well end up making the playoffs.

  • WNBA: Las Vegas Aces @ Golden State Valkyries at 10:00 pm (ET) on NBATV

Speaking of that final playoff spot, these two are firmly in the mix as well. Two brutal losses post-All-Star break forced Aces coach Becky Hammon to adjust her lineup as she sent Jewell Loyd to the bench in favor of Kierstan Bell. The move worked out for both as Loyd dropped 20 points in just 19 minutes, and Bell’s career-high 19 points had people photoshopping A’ja Wilson’s hair on her. Will they continue to create space against a Golden State team trying to find its way after losing All-Star Kayla Thornton for the season?
