Okay, my show is officially on pause as I await the birth of my son! But don’t worry, because I’ll be back ASAP, and I left on a high note as my old friends Brett and Danny joined me to talk about all things MLB! Check it out, savor it, and you’ll get to see my face soon!
Now, to the sports!

WNBA: Las Vegas Aces @ Indiana Fever at 7:00 pm (ET) on Prime Video
Few performances sum up the season the Aces have had quite like the last time these two faced off. The Fever blew out Las Vegas as A’ja Wilson had 29 points in 26 minutes, but the rest of her team combined to score just 25. Their status as a title contender was up in the air heading into this season, but who could have imagined them barely hanging onto a playoff spot at the halfway mark? This kicks off a 4-game road trip for them that could make or break those playoff hopes.

WNBA: Dallas Wings @ Golden State Valkyries at 10:00 pm (ET) on ION
The Valkyries have been filling up the Chase Center all season long, so I can’t even imagine how many organs you’d have to sell to get in the building with Paige Bueckers coming to town. Luckily, we can watch it for free on ION. Golden State has been far more competitive on the court than anybody thought they’d be, but they did limp into the All-Star break losing 5 of their last 6. If they want to keep the pressure on the aforementioned Aces, winning games against teams like Dallas is a must.

MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Boston Red Sox at 7:15 pm (ET) on Fox
These two are intertwined in my mind as a result of sharing so many star players over the years. Let’s go off the top of my head: Mookie Betts, Manny Ramirez, Adrian Gonzalez, Nomar Garciaparra, and Pedro Martinez. Pedro makes an appearance at the beginning of the MLB All-Star episode above! Anyways, as a Dodgers fan, the only current Red Sox player that interests me is the presumptive starting pitcher in this one, Garrett Crochet. An all-star for the first time this season, he currently leads the majors in strikeouts and is tied for second in ERA among qualified starters. I propose a straight up swap for Edgardo Henriquez. Who says no?
@bleacherreport Rough error for Dodgers pitcher Edgardo Henriquez 😬 (via @MLB, SNLA) #mlb #baseball #dodgers

Women’s International Soccer: England vs. Spain at 12:00 pm (ET) on Fox
An absolutely electric run by the Lionesses to give themselves an opportunity to repeat as UEFA Euros champs. 19-year-old Michelle Agyemang has forced extra time with late equalizers in both knockout stage matches. Just when it looked like England’s fate was going to be decided by PKs once again, the referees gifted them a penalty. Chloe Kelly missed the initial attempt, but buried the rebound and sent them to this match.
They face off against a Spanish squad we figured would be here, but had to survive an extra time scare of their own against Germany in the semifinals. Based on how this entire tournament has gone, it feels like we’re in for a wild finish here. I did a great job of including this tournament in the guide. You’re welcome.
MLB: Seattle Mariners @ Los Angeles Angels at 4:07 pm (ET) on Roku
If you ever need a cruel reminder for just how tough baseball is, look no further than Mike Trout. From 2012-2020, the star CF averaged 40 homers and 105 RBI per 162 games. Among active players, a 9.5 WAR has been achieved in a single season 9 times. Trout accounts for 4 of those seasons. However, terrible management by his organization has robbed his numbers of some of their meaning. Even worse, injuries have now robbed him of his ability to put up such eye-popping numbers. Now, the 3-time AL MVP is a mere footnote in a game against this year’s leading candidate, Mariners C Cal Raleigh.
TBT: Quarterfinals at 7:00 pm (ET) on FS1
The perfect mix of nostalgia and pickup basketball vibes. Ever wonder what happened to that star college player from the early 2010s who wasn’t quite good enough for the NBA? Well, here he is! And the Elam Ending makes the end of every close game feel like game point in a game of 21. The 2 games will be back-to-back.

TBT: Quarterfinals at 6:00 pm (ET) on FS2 and 8:00 pm (ET) on FS1
Not only are the teams filled with college stars of yesteryear, but many of them are alumni-based, so you get to see them competing with the same teammates they had in their heyday. Oh, and they’re competing for $1 million. It really has it all!

MLB: Tampa Bay Rays @ New York Yankees at 7:05 pm (ET) on TBS
No player impressed me more from a vibes perspective during the All-Star festivities than Rays 3B Junior Caminero. Imagine my surprise when I learned that he had a stint with my hometown Charleston Riverdogs, but I didn’t go see him in person. As far as I’m concerned, that’s the Riverdogs’ fault though, as they refuse to market to me. I have started attending games in spite of this, but they desperately need to let Danny Foxworth throw out the first pitch to thank me for doing so.

WNBA: New York Liberty @ Minnesota Lynx at 8:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Finals rematch! And, quite possibly, a finals preview as well. The defending champion Liberty have not looked quite as sharp, yet still find themselves second in the league standings. Things are looking up too, as star Jonquel Jones, who for my money is their most important piece, has returned from injury, and they added 2019 Finals MVP Emma Meesseman in a move that has scared just about everyone worth scaring. This will be her first appearance on Studbudz ever.
As always, thank you for reading! I will attempt to keep this going throughout the birth of my child, but if not, the hiatus will be shorter than that of the podcast. Subscribe so you get this first thing Thursday mornings and don’t have to wonder about where I’ve gone!
