Alright, I’m back! Hopefully, for good. Thank you for your patience. Working on some podcast stuff, but nothing this week, so let’s get to the sports! I’m rusty, so forgive any grammatical errors!

College Football: #10 Miami Hurricanes vs. #6 Ole Miss Rebels at 7:30pm (ET) on ESPN
This year’s Cinderellas face off to determine whose ride turns back into a pumpkin. The Hurricanes overcame QB Carson Beck's overwhelming mediocrity and head coach Mario Cristobal’s in-game management to take down the defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes. True freshman and Miami native Malachi Toney should be an NIL billionaire by the time he turns pro. Truly one of the most exciting players in the nation.
As is Rebels QB Trinidad Chambliss. How in the hell did he not earn the starting job from the jump? He was absolutely electric while leading Ole Miss over Georgia in a 39-34 thriller. Are we all pulling for them to win it all and add the most hilarious chapter yet to the Lane Kiffin story? If you need a less cynical reason to cheer them on, freshman DL Corey Adams was killed in a shooting at a house party in July. The players did a great job of honoring him after their Sugar Bowl win. Now, it’s the boosters’ turn. No arrests have been made yet, and the reward is $21,000. They need to treat that reward fund like it’s a 5-star QB.

College Football: #5 Oregon Ducks vs. #1 Indiana Hoosiers at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN
The Hoosiers cut Alabama’s ass, my goodness. That’s what Bama used to do to people. Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza’s insistence on looking directly into the camera during post-game interviews is incredibly unnerving, but he keeps winning. He had more TD passes than incompletions against the Crimson Tide.
I have no clue what to make of Oregon. The Ducks’ offense looked incredible, but their defense looked suspect in their opening-round win against James Madison. Then, the D shut out Texas Tech while the offense was mostly stuck in neutral in last week’s quarterfinal victory. They’ll need both sides of the ball to be at their best if they want to avenge their only loss of the season. I feel obligated to point out that their kicker is named Atticus Sappington.

Men’s Soccer: Everton vs. Sunderland at 7:15 am (ET) on ESPN2
We are back at it with the early morning Saturday soccer. This is English FA Cup action, which is the oldest soccer competition in the world. Here’s a guide to how it works. Everybody’s favorite party boy, Jack Grealish, plays for Everton. Some guy made a calendar dedicated to Jack’s calves. This was published in 2023, but Google says there are 2026 versions available if that’s your thing. They are nice calves.
Men’s College Basketball: #10 Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Indiana Hoosiers at 12:00 pm (ET) on Big Ten Network
Looking for college basketball’s version of the college football Hoosiers? Look no further than the Cornhuskers. They find themselves in the AP Top-10 for the first time since 1966. The program has zero NCAA Tournament wins in its history, which seems impossible. All-time hilarious moment in their 58-56 win over Michigan State last Friday. Freshman Braden Frager hit a 3 and did one of those “firing a gun” celebrations at his defender that the kids love these days. Not only did he receive a technical foul, but the recipient of the “shot” was Spartans G Jeremy Fears, who was real-life shot a couple of years ago. Whoops!
NFL Playoffs: Los Angeles Rams @ Carolina Panthers at 4:30 pm (ET) on Fox
Division winners get homefield advantage, no matter how shitty the division they won was, so the 8-9 Panthers host the 12-5 Rams for this one. As a Panthers fan, I’m just happy to be here. This is the first playoff game they’ve hosted since the 2015 Super Bowl run. The Rams have the best scoring offense in the NFL, so Carolina will most likely need a time machine so that the 2015 team can play to have a chance. Matthew Stafford led the league with 46 TD passes. That’s 12 more than the next best mark. I almost fainted when I read that, so I hope you’re seated.
Sunday, January 11th, 2026
First things first, today is my 37th birthday. I cannot believe that I’m 37. I certainly don’t feel as old as that sounds. I’m happy to be here, and excited to eat funfetti cake!
Men’s Soccer: Arsenal @ Portsmouth at 9:00 am (ET) on ESPN2
More FA Cup action! This is a learning experience for us all, but mostly me. The only name I recognize is Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka. Unfortunately for him, what comes to mind is his shoot-out miss for England in the 2020 Euro Final. In fairness to Saka, he was like 7 years old. The streets are saying he’s now one of the best wingers in the world. Tune in and make your own memories!
NFL Playoffs: Buffalo Bills @ Jacksonville Jaguars at 1:00 pm (ET) on CBS
My goodness! Not since the days of Fred Taylor and Keenan McCardell have the Jaguars looked this good! They face off against a Bills team that was a Super Bowl favorite heading into the year, and probably still would be if not for a midseason swoon. Feels like a relatively even matchup, so it should be a close one!
Women’s College Basketball: #5 Oklahoma Sooners @ #6 Kentucky Wildcats at 4:00 pm (ET) on SEC Network
If you had any doubt whether Georgia Tech transfer Tonie Morgan was ready for SEC play, she wasted no time erasing it. She went off for 24 points, 12 assists, and the game-winning 3-pointer on the road against then-#5 LSU in the Wildcats’ opening game of conference play. She should have a big game against a Sooners team that loves to run. Can she help Kentucky knock off yet another 5th-ranked team?
NFL Playoffs: Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots at 8:00 pm (ET) on NBC
I’m sad to say the Patriots are back. Drake Maye has looked every bit the player we thought he’d be at North Carolina. He finished in the top 5 in both passing yards and TDs on his way to leading the league in passer rating. This will be one hell of a test in his first postseason action as the Chargers’ pass defense is legit. Los Angeles allowed the 5th fewest passing yards, 3rd fewest passing TDs, and came away with the 3rd most interceptions. A rock meets a hard place!

Unrivaled Basketball: Mist vs. Phantom at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT
Unrivaled Mondays are back! Actually, they were last season. The Mist opened things up with a big win against the Hive. Mist F/C Alanna Smith documents her coffee shop trips on TikTok, which I thoroughly enjoy. The Phantom opened its season with a loss to the Breeze. Perhaps they need more caffeine.
Unrivaled Basketball: Laces vs. Lunar Owls at 8:45 pm (ET) on TNT
One of the coolest interviews I’ve ever had the pleasure of doing was with Unrivaled Play-by-Play announcer Brendan Glasheen. Go run that one back while I try to get back on my yapping feet, then tune in and listen to him live!
Tuesday, January 13th, 2026
NBA: San Antonio Spurs @ Oklahoma City Thunder at 8:00 pm (ET) on NBC
Is it time to start talking about the Spurs more? Not only did they singlehandedly end all of the “can the Thunder win 74 games?” talk by beating them in their previous 3 matchups this season, but they are currently 2nd in the West despite Victor Wembanyama missing 15 games. That’s because they spread the wealth with 8 players, including Vic, averaging double figures. The Thunder are still really good, but appear to have lost focus without the single-season wins record out of the picture. I mean, the Hornets just beat them by 27. Can they lock back in?
Wednesday, January 14th, 2026
NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers @ Philadelphia 76ers at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Tyrese Maxey is that dude. I’ve seen enough. If the 76ers can build smartly around him and rookie VJ Edgecombe, Maxey will be in the MVP conversation within the next 3 seasons. He probably should be now since he’s averaging career-highs across the board and the 76ers are on pace to win 46 games after winning just 24 last season, but SGA and OKC are just too good for any of that to matter at the moment. But he’s really good!
As always, thank you for reading! Make sure you’re subscribed so you get this in your inbox first thing Thursday mornings. And tell a friend to tell a friend! I’ll catch you next week!
