Nothing last week, but working on some NBA trade deadline stuff for you! Let’s get to the sports!

  • Women’s College Basketball: #17 Duke Blue Devils @ #6 Louisville Cardinals at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

A battle for first place in the ACC! Just two months ago, the Blue Devils had a 3-6 record that had coach Kara Lawson’s seat feeling mighty toasty. A 13-game winning streak has turned the temp all the way down. Meanwhile, Louisville has flown under-the-radar and is on a 14-game winning streak of its own. They utilize a balanced attack on offense with 7 players averaging at least 8 points per game. Which team will come away with its first ACC loss?

  • Women’s College Basketball: #5 LSU Tigers @ #4 Texas Longhorns at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

How strong is the SEC? Both of these teams are in the top-5 in the country, but neither is in the top-2 of the conference. LSU won the first showdown at home to give Texas its first loss of the season. I swear, teams are afraid to play them in Baton Rouge. They’ll be in Austin this go-round. Texas is looking for its 3rd consecutive 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Meanwhile, LSU hasn’t earned that honor in 20 years. The loser in this one will simply not have the résumé needed to justify it, so yeah, this one is important.

  • Unrivaled Basketball: Breeze vs. Hive at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT

The expansion clubs! Not sure if you knew this, but Breeze star Paige Bueckers is really good at basketball. This format has forced her to be aggressive offensively, and she’s currently 3rd in the league in scoring. It’ll be interesting to see how much of this carries over to the WNBA season (assuming there is one!). In the meantime, can the Hive figure out a way to slow her down?

  • Unrivaled Basketball: Lunar Owls vs. Laces at 8:45 pm (ET) on TNT

What a difference a year makes! Last year, an injury limited Marina Mabrey’s Unrivaled experience to learning how to season food. This year, she’s leading the league in scoring, including setting the single-game record with 47 points during last Friday’s Philly showcase. She might need a repeat performance if the Lunar Owls are going to take down the first-place Laces.

  • Men’s College Basketball: Morehead State Eagles @ UT-Martin Skyhawks at 4:00 pm on ESPNU

Skyhawks coach Jeremy Shulman must be the greatest recruiter we’ve ever seen. UT-Martin has 19 players listed on its roster. Just 7 of them are from the good ol’ US of A. Can you imagine what this man is saying to get these kids to leave their home continent to come live in Martin, Tennessee? Respectfully, of course. Well, it’s paying off. UT-Martin is atop a top-heavy OVC. This will be a tough battle against an Eagle squad that’s within arm’s reach of them.

  • Men’s College Basketball: #4 Duke Blue Devils @ #14 North Carolina Tar Heels at 6:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

Okay, it’s different than it was even a decade ago, but it’s still Duke-North Carolina! The Blue Devils have only lost once this season, and even that was by a single point to a tough Texas Tech team. They feature former Blue Devil Carlos Boozer’s son, Cameron, who leads them in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. He’s neck and neck with Tar Heel F Caleb Wilson on my NBA draft boards. Wilson, who leads his team in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks, has drawn comparisons to Kevin Garnett. The Dean Dome should be rockin’!

  • NBA: Golden State Warriors @ Los Angeles Lakers at 8:30 pm (ET) on ABC

Some big changes could be coming for both organizations. The Warriors have very openly been in talks with the Bucks for a blockbuster deal to bring Steph Curry help in the form of Giannis Antetokounmpo. That would be something! Meanwhile, it appears the Lakers and LeBron are headed for a divorce this offseason. If the Warriors land Giannis, they should trade him for LeBron this summer. Think of how happy that would make me and Draymond!

  • Women’s College Basketball: #2 UCLA Bruins @ #8 Michigan Wolverines at 3:00 pm (ET) on Fox

The Wolverines are coming off a very gritty OT win against a tough Michigan State team. They face an even taller task as they try to take down the #2 team in the country. The senior-laden Bruins have won 15 in a row, including all of their conference games so far. Michigan is 0-2 against top-5 teams this season, but those losses were by a combined 3 points. Can they put it all together and come away with the win in this one?

  • Super Bowl LX: Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots at 6:30 pm (ET) on NBC

Do you need me to convince you to watch this? There literally will not be another sporting event on. Bad Bunny is doing the halftime show, and it’s making MAGA sad. The commercials! You wanna risk missing the next Puppy Monkey Baby? Didn’t think so!

  • Men’s College Basketball: Navy Midshipmen @ Bucknell Bison at 6:00 pm (ET) on CBSSN

Everyone else in the Patriot League is looking up at Navy, and C Aiden Kehoe is a big reason why. The 6’11” senior leads the nation in field goal percentage at 73.8%. If that holds, it’ll be the 5th highest mark since 1992-’93. He also wears #99, which is ridiculous. The Midshipmen are undefeated this season when he reaches double-figures.

  • Men’s College Basketball: #1 Arizona Wildcats @ #11 Kansas Jayhawks at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

Turns out Darryn Peterson can play in the 2nd half. The star freshman overcame his mysterious injury issues to hit 35 minutes of playing time for the first time this season against Texas Tech. The Jayhawks needed every last second as he knocked down the game-tying and game-winning 3s in the final 1:30. Can he do it again against a Wildcat team that’s off to the best start in the history of its storied program?

Yes, that’s right. Tommy Lloyd must be doing something right if his team is doing something even the great Lute Olsen didn’t accomplish. This will be the first time that a visiting team has entered Allen Fieldhouse ranked #1 since Olsen’s Wildcats came in and got the W back in January 2003. Andre Iguodala was a freshman coming off the bench on that team! Don’t you feel old?

  • NBA: Los Angeles Clippers @ Houston Rockets at 8:00 pm (ET) on NBATV

Welp, the Clippers have moved on from James Harden. Enter Darius Garland. On the plus side, he’s a 26-year-old 2-time All-Star. That’s nice! So how did LA get him for Harden? Well, his development has plateaued through a combination of struggling to play alongside Donovan Mitchell and injuries. He’s once again struggling with toe issues this year, so yeah, I don’t know what to think. The Clippers have turned things around since getting rid of Chris Paul, but they are now relying on Garland and the even less durable Kawhi Leonard to lead them. I’m unable to count them out entirely, because they always make me look silly when I do, but I won’t be counting them in yet either.

  • Men’s College Basketball: Chattanooga Mocs @ East Tennessee State Buccaneers at 7:00 pm (ET) on CBSSN

A childhood following the College of Charleston men’s basketball team means I’m still a SoCon fan at heart. The Bucs are in first place by just a game over 3 other teams. The Mocs are not one of those teams, but they did almost pull off an upset against ETSU a couple of weeks ago. Things will be a little bit harder on the road in Johnson City, but no doubt their coach, Dan Earl, is well-prepared after playing in front of me back when he was a member of the Roanoke Dazzle.

As always, thank you for reading! Make sure you’re subscribed so you get this in your inbox first thing Thursday mornings. And share with your friends! I’ll see you next week!
