Muhammad Ali, Jokic to the Lakers, and HOOTIE HOOOOO!
Welcome to Screen Shots! This is where I tell you what sporting events you should watch on TV every week! Make sure you subscribe so it comes straight to your inbox! Have your own suggestions? Shoot me an email at [email protected]!
I did a really cool episode this past week where I invited Texas Longhorns superfan Kim Singleton to tell me why we need to be paying attention to the Longhorns women’s basketball team! Great timing on our part too, because it was in the middle of a stretch that saw Texas beat 3 top-10 teams in a week to rise to #2 themselves. Tap in!
Now, to the sports!

Women’s College Basketball: LeMoyne Dolphins @ Fairleigh Dickinson Knights at 5:00 pm (ET) on ESPNU
You’re going to want to keep an eye on FDU. They are undefeated in Northeast Conference play so far as they seek to make the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. The Knights actually won the conference tournament in 1990 and 1992, but the NEC didn’t have an automatic qualifying bid to the tournament due to there being only 48 spots at the time. Keep an eye on freshman G Ava Renninger and senior F/C Teneisia Brown.

Unrivaled Basketball: Lunar Owls @ Rose at 7:15 pm (ET) on TNT
Team play is back after league co-founder/Lunar Owl star Napheesa Collier took home the league’s inaugural 1-on-1 crown. In case you forgot, the Lunar Owls are still undefeated. As a wise man once said, shooters shoot but hooters hoot.
Men’s College Basketball: #14 Michigan State Spartans @ #12 Michigan Wolverines at 8:00 pm (ET) on Fox
This will require some serious remote skills, so make sure the batteries are fresh. A rivalry game between top-15 teams battling it out for the Big Ten title for the first time since 2014. You remember first-year Wolverines coach Dusty May from his Final Four run at FAU a couple of years ago. He brought 7’1” big man Vladislav Goldin with him to pair with 7-foot Yale transfer Danny Wolf, and, surprise surprise, having 2 of the biggest players on the court has translated into wins. Both sides feature last names you will remember that will make you feel old, but fear not, because Spartans coach Tom Izzo is almost certainly older.
Unrivaled Basketball: Mist @ Vinyl at 8:15 pm (ET) on TNT
Mist? More like Missed! In a tale of two co-founders, Breanna Stewart of the Mist is trying to claw her way out of a slump that’s contributed to her team currently being tied for last place in the standings. They face off against a Vinyl team that has all of the pieces on paper but has struggled to put them together in real life. Very similar to me when I try to make a roux.

Men’s College Basketball: #6 Tennessee Volunteers @ #7 Texas A&M Aggies at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
I had to double-check the Aggies’ ranking twice, then see if Acie Law came back (Rick Barnes probably did too). While they did just get blown out against Mississippi State, Buzz Williams is doing the same thing he’s done at Marquette and Virginia Tech. However, neither A&M nor Buzz has made the Final Four. Could that change this year?
Men’s College Basketball: Santa Clara Broncos @ Washington State Cougars at 6:00 pm (ET) on CBSSN
A “that’s where they are?!?” matchup. The Cougars resurfaced post-Pac-12 dissolution in the West Coast Conference. It says a lot about the state of college athletics when we’re stunned when programs pick conferences that make sense geographically. They face off against conference foe Santa Clara, who is coached by Herb Sendek. Yes, THAT Herb Sendek. Back when the ACC was the ACC, he always had an NC State squad that was scrappy enough to pull off an upset or two in conference play. Shout out to Julius Hodge for the memories and showing us the real Chris Paul.
NBA: Los Angeles Lakers @ Denver Nuggets at 8:30 pm (ET) on ABC
It’s time to move past whatever the All-Star game was and look ahead to the future. A future where, thanks to Mavs GM Nico Harrison, anything is possible. Including a Lakers team featuring close friends Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic. Fire up Photoshop and dare to dream, my friends.

Women’s College Basketball: #17 West Virginia Mountaineers @ #10 TCU Horned Frogs at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
West Virginia leads the nation in putting opposing guards through hell. At least, they would if that were a real stat. The Mountaineers have four guards averaging at least 2 steals per game. They certainly lack size, but it turns out opposing bigs can’t take advantage of that if they never get the ball. Fresh off of an upset win against Kansas State where they had star PG Serena Sundell locked up, can they do the same to Hailey Van Lith and the Horned Frogs?
Women’s College Basketball: #7 LSU Tigers @ #14 Kentucky Wildcats at 4:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Weakness on weakness matchup. Including tournaments, 11 of the 16 losses LSU has suffered in the Kim Mulkey era have come away from the friendly confines of the Maravich Assembly Center. As a team that runs on emotion, they are fueled by that home crowd. They head to Lexington to take on a Kentucky team that, at least by SEC standards, has the reputation of being soft. Can they stand up to an LSU team that prides itself on its toughness, or will LSU’s 3-headed monster of Aneesah Morrow, Flau’jae Johnson, and Mikayla Williams come away with a big-time road win?

Men’s College Basketball: #5 Houston Cougars @ #9 Texas Tech Red Raiders at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
The last time these two played, Texas Tech star JT Toppin was ejected not even 4 minutes in for what looked to be inadvertent contact while attempting to pass the ball. The call was so bad that Red Raiders coach Grant McCasland was ejected himself after learning of Toppin’s ejection and seeing a replay on an iPad. Despite this, Texas Tech came away with a 1-point win in OT. Going to be hard to replicate all of that action, but these also happen to be two of the best teams in the nation.

On This Day In Sports History: Muhammad Ali won his first world heavyweight boxing title in 1964
There is simply no way I could write about this fight, where Ali defeated Sonny Liston, much less everything that transpired in Ali’s life afterward and do it the justice that it deserves (you should watch the movie starring Will Smith though). Ali’s life has a way of inspiring me while also making me feel like an asshole. This is a man who believed in something so strongly that he risked both his freedom and his livelihood. Meanwhile, I struggle not to use an app owned by a Nazi built like his most hideous product who is trying to dismantle the US government from within.

NBA: San Antonio Spurs @ Houston Rockets at 9:30 pm (ET) on ESPN
Wemby, of course, but the Houston Rockets are hoopin’.
Alright, that will do it for this week! As always, thank you for reading. It’d be super cool if you subscribed and shared this as well! Catch you next week!
