No new episode last week, but I am cooking up something for this week! To the sports!

  • Women’s College Basketball: #11 Oklahoma Sooners @ #24 Georgia Bulldogs at 6:30 pm (ET) on SEC Network

The SEC is the toughest conference in America, but don’t tell that to Bulldogs G Dani Carnegie. The sophomore is averaging over 20 PPG in conference play after dropping 29 in Georgia’s upset win over then-#5 Vandy. Carnegie doesn’t have a huge national profile yet, but March is right around the corner. The Bulldogs are already firmly in the tournament picture, but a 4th win over a top-25 program would be a nice little resume enhancer.

  • Men’s College Basketball: Idaho Vandals @ Portland State Vikings at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPNU

The Vikings sit atop the Big Sky standings, but they still have 3 games left against teams hot on their tail. A win over the Vandals would increase their margin for error a bit heading into that stretch. As a bonus, you get a chance to check out one of the best mid-major 1-2 punches in the country in Terri Miller Jr. and Jaylen Henderson. Congrats!

  • Unrivaled Basketball: Phantom vs. Laces at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT

If you’re a fan of shoulders and elbows, have I got good news for you! Yes, it’s a matchup between the first 2 teams to clinch playoff spots this season, but it’s also a showdown between Alyssa Thomas and Aliyah Boston. Imagine officiating this one. I’d call 5 straight double fouls and move on with my life. However, I’m not a Sephora referee, so tune in to see how it goes!

  • NBA: Los Angeles Clippers @ Los Angeles Lakers at 10:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

I’ve been hesitant to speak on it because I’ve seen this movie before, but Kawhi Leonard is having one hell of a season. Not only has he been healthy enough to play in roughly 75% of the Clippers’ games, but he’s also averaging a career-high in points per game. All it took was a little fake marketing deal controversy to get him back on track! Still no resolution to that, by the way. The load gets a little bit heavier since the Clippers moved James Harden and Ivica Zubac, so let’s see how the fun guy responds!

  • Men’s College Basketball: #12 Florida Gators @ Ole Miss Rebels at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

The Gators have won 14 of their last 16 games to help erase a 5-4 start to the year. The rest of the SEC is looking up at them as they try to carry this momentum into March on their quest to repeat as national champions. They do it by hitting the glass. The nation’s 2nd-leading rebounding team has 4 players averaging at least 6 boards per game. They are undefeated when hitting the 40 rebound mark as a team. Good luck to Ole Miss, whose leading rebounder averages just 6.1 boards a game.

  • Men’s College Basketball: #4 Arizona Wildcats @ #2 Houston Cougars at 3:00 pm (ET) on ABC

The men’s Big 12 has a permanent slot in this newsletter at this point. The Wildcats started the season with a program-record 23 straight wins before losing back-to-back heartbreakers. The Cougs are coming off their own heartbreaker after blowing a late 8-point lead on the road to Iowa State. The winner here will sit in the driver’s seat of the Big 12.

  • Men’s College Basketball: #1 Michigan Wolverines vs. #3 Duke Blue Devils at 6:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

According to ESPN Research, this will be just the fifth time in the history of the AP that we get two top-4 matchups on the same day. The first time it happened, we also got Duke taking on a #1 Michigan team. Way back on December 5th, 1992, Thomas Hill and Bobby Hurley led the Blue Devils over the Fab 5 in a rematch of the previous year’s national title game. The Wolverines recovered to again play for the championship, but Chris Webber, well, you know. Enjoy your February Final Four!

  • NBA: Houston Rockets @ New York Knicks at 8:30 pm (ET) on ABC

Kevin Durant playing in NYC less than a week after allegedly being caught using yet another burner account and trashing his current teammates. What more could you want?

  • Women’s College Basketball: #17 Ole Miss Rebels @ #3 South Carolina Gamecocks at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

The Coach Yo era has been marked by two things: the longest 20-win season streak since Van Chancellor left to coach the Houston Comets and offensive struggles that have kept them out of the upper echelon of the SEC. The latter might be a thing of the past as Ole Miss is currently averaging a Coach Yo-best 77.5 points per game. This will be the perfect test to see just how far that offense has come. At the top of the upper echelon of the SEC is Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks. A Coach Yo-led Rebel team has yet to score 60 points against South Carolina, much less beat them. With ESPN’s College Gameday in Columbia, can Ole Miss shock the world?

  • Women’s College Basketball: #18 Michigan State Spartans @ #23 Minnesota Golden Gophers at 6:00 pm (ET) on FS1

A season in which Michigan State reached its highest ranking in 15 years has quickly turned into them trying to regain their footing before the postseason starts. Losers of four of their last five games, the Spartans need a confidence-boosting win. Hitting the road and taking down a tough Golden Gophers team would be just that. Unfortunately for them, Minnesota has been as hot as Michigan State has been cold as of late. Odds are, Spartans senior Grace Vanslooten’s field goal percentage will tell the story. Michigan State has lost just once this season when Grace has made at least half of her shot attempts.

  • Unrivaled Basketball: Lunar Owls vs. Vinyl at 7:30 pm (ET) on TNT

Incredibly, the Lunar Owls are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. Now, they’re looking up at every other team, so they have to win all of their games. But it’s mathematically possible. See if the math works in their favor as they take on a Vinyl team that’s only a game ahead of them in the standings and pretty much in the same predicament.

  • Men’s College Basketball: #2 Houston Cougars @ #8 Kansas Jayhawks at 9:00 pm (ET) on ESPN

I truly hate repeating teams in a single newsletter, but we just talked about how competitive the Big 12 men are this season. If you have a problem with big-time matchups, tell the other conferences to do better!

  • Men’s College Basketball: NC State Wolfpack @ #14 Virginia Cavaliers at 7:00 pm (ET) on ACC Network

I’m not going to lie, I had no clue that Virginia was good again. I go out of my way to avoid them ever since former coach Tony Bennett made it clear that he was using them as a vessel to set offensive basketball back 50 years. However, first-year head coach Ryan Odom has brought them into the 21st century. I had to verify several places because I didn’t believe it, but they’re averaging 81 points per game. They haven’t done that since Pete Gillen was there. So yeah, my bad. Tap in!

  • Men’s College Basketball: USC Trojans @ UCLA Bruins at 11:00 pm (ET) on FS1

Crosstown rivalry and all that, but mostly we should all tune in to boo Mick Cronin. That guy is the absolute worst. How has nobody kicked his ass?

  • NBA: Oklahoma City Thunder @ Detroit Pistons at 7:30 pm (ET) on ESPN

These have been far and away the best teams in the league this season. We know OKC has what it takes to win it all because we just saw them do it, but I’m very curious about the Pistons. Last year was the first taste of postseason hoops for their important pieces, and it showed. We won’t know for sure how much that helped them grow until playoff time, but this will be the next best test.
