I’ve brought on a new employee to help me out with this growing media empire of mine. Unfortunately, he requires round-the-clock training that isn’t quite conducive to Beyond The Arc with Brandon Silvers coming back yet. Also, the sleep deprivation from said training could lead to an increased number of grammatical errors on my part. It doesn’t help that I could feel him shit his pants as I typed this paragraph out. However, he’s incredibly cute, so I’m willing to work with him.

Now, to the sports!

Little League Softball World Series: Coverage starts at 1:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
This should have been a thing as long as the LLWS (more on that later), but sexism. However, better late than never, I suppose. Also, softball is awesome. Coming down to the wire here with some regional finals. Two games today, with the second one starting at 5:00 pm.
Little League World Series: Coverage starts at 1:00 pm (ET) and alternates between ESPN and ESPN2
We’re technically not even in the actual LLWS yet, as these are the title games to determine who gets to go. The games at 1:00 pm and 5 pm will be on ESPN2. 3:00, 7:00 pm, and 9:00 pm games will all be on ESPN. I’ve been following this tournament since the Danny Almonte scandal. I was 12 at the time, and couldn’t believe a fellow 12-year-old could be 5’8” and throw a 76 mph fastball. Turns out, Almonte was 14. This made me feel better, until I was 14 and still not 5’8” with a 76 mph fastball.

Little League Softball World Series: Coverage starts at 4:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
2 more games to determine the Final Four!
Little League World Series: Coverage starts at 1:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
Another full slate of regional finals to determine the LLWS field. Last game starts at 9:00 pm. Speaking of LLWS scandals, the Texas-Oklahoma game had some controversy. Here’s a full recap from Jomboy, but we’ll pick it up a little later in the 4th inning. The Oklahoma baserunner on 2nd was caught relaying signs to his teammate at-bat. There was a stoppage to get a ruling from the Tournament Director, but no punishment was handed down. My own baseball sources tell me that this isn’t a huge deal because 1) it’s so easy to do and 2) it’s also easy to guard against.
What is most likely a bigger deal? Rumors on Twitter say the entire Oklahoma Little League baseball and softball teams are frauds. As with the Danny Almonte scandal, and as I learned during my time working in youth sports, adults ruin everything. I expect nothing to come from this, but tune in before private equity gets involved in all of this and really screws it up.

NFL: Cleveland Browns @ Carolina Panthers at 7:00 pm (ET) on NFL Network
Remember when we made fun of the Browns for drafting 2 QBs to give them a total of 437 on the roster? Well, jokes on you because 436 of them are injured already! This has the added bonus of giving us the intriguing Shedeur Sanders’ first professional start. Per team policy, he was also hurt, but managed to recover enough to play. Give me my theme music!
WNBA: Seattle Storm @ Las Vegas Aces at 10:00 pm (ET) on ION
As I was preparing to write about this game, I was combing through all things Storm to figure out how in the hell they haven’t been more successful this year. I guess they were thinking the same thing because they traded for Mystics G Brittney Sykes. Always a solid 2-way player, she’s leveled up this season, earning her first All-Star nod. My gut tells me that they still need more outside shooting, but this move should get them closer to the top of what is still a wide-open league. Plus, more moves could be made by the time this one tips off, as the trade deadline is Thursday.

NWSL: Washington Spirit @ Gotham FC at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
After a nice little break for international competitions, the NWSL season has resumed! The break allowed Spirit star Trinity Rodman to get healthy, and she scored the game-winner against Portland in her first game back. Gotham FC is led by Esther Gonzalez, who starred for Spain in their runner-up UEFA Women’s Euros performance. They are trying to get things figured out as they are far behind last season’s pace.
Little League Softball World Series: Orange Bracket Final at 2:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
The final four…
Little League Softball World Series: Purple Bracket Final at 5:00 pm (ET) on ESPN2
…so you get 2 games.
WNBA: Chicago Sky @ Indiana Fever at 8:00 pm (ET) on CBS
At the time of this writing, there’s no timetable for the return of Angel Reese or Caitlin Clark. We should watch anyway so we can prove the worst people you know wrong.

Little League Softball World Series: Championship Game at 3:00 pm (ET) on ABC
Have you ever played in a youth sports championship game? Now, imagine that game was to prove that you’re the best in the nation, and it’s on ABC. Alright then.
WNBA: Atlanta Dream @ Phoenix Mercury at 6:00 pm (ET) on NBA TV
With Napheesa Collier out with an injury, the national media should finally be forced to talk about both of these teams. They are each within striking distance of the 2-seed, feature the top 2 MVP candidates (flip a coin for the order right now), and Atlanta even has the frontrunner for 6th Player of the Year in Naz Hillmon. Not sure how much bigger a matchup could get!

On This Day In Sports History: In 2024, Team USA defeated France 67-66 in women’s basketball to take home the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics
Can you believe it’s been a year already? This was one of the most stressful games I’ve ever watched, but totally worth it. It also gave us the Kelsey Plum clutch free throw smile, Gabby Williams banking in a shot at the buzzer that would have tied the game if she shot it from 2 inches further, and A’ja Wilson letting the entire world know that Kahleah Copper is that bitch. Is it 2028 yet?

MLB: Chicago Cubs @ Toronto Blue Jays at 7:07 pm (ET) on TBS
Toronto is trying to hold off a red-hot Boston team in the AL East. Chicago is trying to catch a red-hot Milwaukee team in the NL Central. As a little fatherhood bonus, the Blue Jays feature the sons of several former major leaguers. Imagine reading this newsletter written 25 years from now, when it’s written by a young Rocket Silvers.

Little League World Series: Coverage starts at 1:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
The official start of the LLWS. Four games alternating between international and national matchups. Venezuela will play in the opening game after having to sweat out whether or not they’d receive a travel ban exemption from this dickhead president we have.
