A battle for the WNBA's 2-seed, the LLWS Championship, and college football is BACK!
Welcome to Screen Shots! This is where I tell you what sporting events you should watch on TV every week! Make sure you subscribe so it comes straight to your inbox! Have your own suggestions? Shoot me an email at [email protected]!
Guess who’s bizzack! I’m not quite ready to guarantee that I’ll be posting weekly again just yet, but I did record a little something to get you ready for college football season with the star of the Gamecocks Football Captain’s Log, P.D. Inabinett. We make some way too early College Football Playoff predictions, touch on what to expect from each conference, and break down off-the-field ridiculousness such as the BYU QB sex scandal and whatever Bill Belichick is doing at UNC! Tap in!
Now, to the sports!

WNBA: Phoenix Mercury @ Las Vegas Aces at 10:00 pm (ET) on Prime Video
This week’s theme for the WNBA will be the 2-seed. At the time of this writing, just half a game separates the four teams vying for that spot. This will be the first of three matchups between some combination of those teams this week. The Aces are by far the hottest of the four, having won 8 games in a row. They are 3-0 against their 2-seed competitors during that stretch. I cannot believe that I just typed any of that.

College Volleyball: #3 Pittsburgh Panthers @ #1 Nebraska Cornhuskers at 7:00 pm (ET) on Fox
In case you forgot, the Cornhuskers’ legendary coach John Cook retired after last season. Look no further than their preseason #1 ranking to see just how much confidence everyone has in new coach Dani Busboom Kelly to guide this wildly talented roster. She guided Louisville to the NCAA title game last year, so her departure was a shock to me. However, I am quickly learning that Nebraska is the Alabama football of the volleyball world. Fun fact: Cook won his first national championship in his very first year at Nebraska. Can Busboom Kelly do the same?

English Premier League: Tottenham Hotspur @ Manchester City at 7:30 am (ET) on USA Network
Saturday breakfast soccer is a great way to get ready for…
College Football: #22 Iowa State Cyclones vs. #17 Kansas State Wildcats at 12:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
…college football! That’s right, the wait is over! And in a big way, as we get “Farmageddon” to kick things off. This rivalry dates back to 1917, but they have never faced off this early in the season. Why the change? Because they are taking this show overseas for the Aer Lingus College Football Classic in Dublin, Ireland. The Cyclones won a close one last year, and lead the series 54-50-4.
WNBA: New York Liberty @ Atlanta Dream at 2:00 pm (ET) on CBS
Another 2-seed showdown! You can’t really replace a player of Breanna Stewart’s caliber, but the signing of Emma Meesseman has certainly helped soften the blow. In 8 games with the Liberty, she’s averaging 15.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1 block per game. Stewie’s return in the next week or so will most likely push Meessemen to the bench, so good luck to everyone else’s bench!
MLB: Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Diego Padres at 8:40 pm (ET) on FS1
Headed into last weekend’s series between these two, the Padres had crawled their way to a first-place tie with the Dodgers in the NL West. In what has become pretty common for San Diego in this rivalry, they were then swept. However, an opportunity for redemption has come quickly! Even better for them, it’ll take place at Petco Park. They are 2-10 against LA since taking a 2-1 lead in last year’s NLDS.

Little League World Series: World Championship Game at 3:00 pm (ET) on ABC
The moment we’ve all been waiting for! As a child, I used to wonder what it was like for these kids, specifically the winners, to show up at school after missing the first couple of weeks to play baseball on ESPN. Are they hounded by autograph requests? Do they have a ton of make-up work? Anyways, to this day, this walk-off HR by Hawaii’s Michael Memea is still the most exciting ending to a LLWS in my lifetime. He probably didn’t have any make-up work waiting for him when he got back to school.
MLB: Boston Red Sox @ New York Yankees at 7:00 pm (ET) on ESPN
You are aware of this rivalry. They haven’t played since the Red Sox swept the Yankees back in mid-June. That was also the last time DH Rafael Devers was on the Red Sox. Boston was thoroughly clowned for trading him to San Francisco, but they have gone 31-22 since then and could move into the top AL Wild Card spot with a good showing in this series.

English Premier League: Liverpool @ Newcastle at 3:00 pm (ET) on USA Network
It might not hit quite like the Saturday morning version, but you’ll get to see Liverpool star Mo Salah in action. Last season, he led Liverpool to the Premier League title while also leading all EPL players in both goals and assists. For his efforts, he earned PFA Player of the Year for a record-setting third time. Salah picked up right where he left off with a goal in their opening match victory over Bournemouth.
MLB: Tampa Bay Rays @ Cleveland Guardians at 6:40 pm (ET) on TBS
A showdown between two of the best 3rd basemen in all of baseball in Junior Caminero and Jose Ramirez. It’s been a decade of dominance for Ramirez. If not for baseball’s regionality, he’d be a household name. Caminero is just getting started, but if it were up to me, he’d be a household name as well. His skill and personality are electric. Should be a fun one!

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies @ New York Mets at 7:10 pm (ET) on TBS
Okay, yeah, they are battling it out for the NL East, but I’m just using this as an excuse to post the video of this Little Leaguer calling Juan Soto overrated.
Tune in and decide for yourself!

WNBA: Las Vegas Aces @ Atlanta Dream at 7:30 pm (ET) on NBA TV
Ending the week how we started it with one more 2-seed contender matchup! These two just played with the Aces edging out the Dream 74-72, thanks to yet another incredible A’ja Wilson performance. That was just the third loss Atlanta has suffered in the last 12 games. Even crazier? Each of those three losses has been by 2 points. Odds are this will be another close one. Can the Dream finally close out a close one?
As always, thank you for reading! Make sure you subscribe so you get this in your inbox first thing Thursday mornings! Also, share with your friends! See you next week!
